What is this about?
Many individuals today and through out history have fought for equal rights for all citizens of every race, gender, age and ability. They have pressed limits and have overcome challenges to make the future equal for all. But it doesn't change by individuals alone fighting for equality, its society as a whole responsible for creating change. With this Web Quest we will be pressing those same limits and making a statement through research, reflection, and art! Part of our responsibility as artists is to creatively highlight issues in society that stop us from being the best we can be.
Many women in history have changed the world and have made it what it is today. Many of those women have not been celebrated for their achievements. Artist Judy Chicago took that stand in 1979, and created an influential piece highlighting women's contributions to the world and the limitations that came with their passion.

The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago is an installation piece of feminist art, which represents 1,038 influential women in history—39 women are represented by place settings and another 999 names are inscribed in the Heritage Floor on which the table rests. This monumental work of art is made up of a table arranged in the shape of an open triangle---a symbol of equality --- divided by three wings, each 48 feet long. It was produced from 1974 to 1979 as a collaboration and was first exhibited in 1979. The place settings highlight specific contributions these women had in history. Each setting describes these accomplishments with an intricately embroidered runner, gold chalice, utensils, napkin, and a 14-inch plate. The center of the plate decorated based on a butterfly motif, with the colors and design relating to the honored woman.
